• What is evidence?  How is it different from rumor?
• Structure and Function - remember this from Grade 7?
• What are structures the 8 organ systems we looked at?
• Microscopes, tissues, and cells!
• difference between multi-cellular and unicellular (single cell)

Coming up:

• Final Project on Pythagoras
• Visual Journal - PLEASE work on yours, it is the story of your learning this year.
• Basic cell processes.  What are they?  Why are they important?
• Functions of the organ systems.

What's Your Angle?

Last Week in Math we:

• Started our work on Pythagoras.
• Read the book "What's your angle?" as a class.
• What is a square root?  A perfect square?
• How do you estimate these things?  Why do we estimate?
• Completed Get Ready, 3.1, and 3.2
• Up next:  Using Pythagorean Theorem to Solve word problems.

Last Week in Science we:

• Continued our work with Cells and how they group together to make tissues.
• Completed our vocabulary.
• Did you finish your microscope assignment?
• Completed 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1 and 2.1 notes, questions, activities.

Microscopes, Systems, and Friday Fun Math - Oh My!

Last week in Math we:

• Reviewed Linear Relations.  Plan A, B, C.
• Could you answer a word problem?  Describe a pattern?  Recognize a line?  Make a table of values?  Plot them on a Cartesian plane?  Solve an if X equals question?  
• Did Friday Fun Math!!

Last week in Science we:

• Watched Osmosis Jones.  What did you identify as REAL and FAKE?  Why is this related to our current unit?
• Completed 1.1 notes and questions about Characteristics of Life, plant vs animal cells.
• Looked at microscopes.  What are the different parts?  What do they do?
• Used the microscopes to look at different things.  How did your drawings turn out?
• How do we calculate magnification using the microscope?

Next Week:

• Complete module on Human Body Systems
• Pythagoras.
• Squares.  Square Roots.  Perfect Squares.

Last Week in Math We:

• Reviewed integer sign rules
• Mastered Integers and Order of operations - Banish the Brackets!
• Completed some Applying Integer Operations (8.5) Practice
• Wrote a little Check-In on Integers.
• Worked on our Integer Foldable.  It is Due on Wednesday February 20, 2019.
• Friday Fun Math had at least TWO ways you could solve the problem.  Either way Kenji started with 54 cookies.  You have to show your thinking as best you can!

Last Week in Science We:

• Reviewed Mechanical Advantage, Speed Ratio, Work, Efficiency
• Completed the TSQ4R on Science, Society, and the Environment are all Important in the Development of Mechanical Devices and other Technology.
• What does TSQ4R mean? (Hint: it is defined in the handout link above)
• Wrote a Check-In about Mechanical Systems.  It was multiple choice.  Sorry about that, it is one skill we will work on.

In Math we have:

• Started our Integers unit.

1. Song; Don't be Negative about a Negative Sign.
2. Notes for the song (Lyrics).

4. Addition Review.
5. Get ready work.

• Worked on Mathletics.
• Got new Math Minute Duo Tangs!

In Science we have:

• Worked on vocabulary for Mechanical Systems.  Be sure to use the vocabulary blank sheet provided to complete it.
• Identified simple and complex machines in Movies (Solo:  A Star Wars story).  Did a journal entry.
• Made playdough, built models of simple machines, labeled them, took a picture.
• Talked about Mechanical Advantage and Speed Ratio.  Why do they not have UNITS?
• Completed Fill in the blank notes, questions, and activities for Machines Make Work Easier (2.1) and The Science of Work (2.2)

Other Stuff:

• Updated Iris; Understanding myself as a learner, goals, strategies.  You are encouraged to add an artifact of your learning, for example a picture of the simple machines you built.

• Good news!  The pink basket is back!  There is also a blue basket for unclaimed work that is ready to be handed back.
