HAPPY 2nd POLAR VORTEX WEEK

Last Week in Math We:

• Reviewed integer sign rules
• Mastered Integers and Order of operations - Banish the Brackets!
• Completed some Applying Integer Operations (8.5) Practice
• Wrote a little Check-In on Integers.
• Worked on our Integer Foldable.  It is Due on Wednesday February 20, 2019.
• Friday Fun Math had at least TWO ways you could solve the problem.  Either way Kenji started with 54 cookies.  You have to show your thinking as best you can!

Last Week in Science We:

• Reviewed Mechanical Advantage, Speed Ratio, Work, Efficiency
• Completed the TSQ4R on Science, Society, and the Environment are all Important in the Development of Mechanical Devices and other Technology.
• What does TSQ4R mean? (Hint: it is defined in the handout link above)
• Wrote a Check-In about Mechanical Systems.  It was multiple choice.  Sorry about that, it is one skill we will work on.

Other Stuff:

• Next Math Unit is about Linear Equations.
• Next Science Unit is about Light and Optical Systems.
• Remember on this snowy, cold, and boring long weekend that you have MATHLETICS and can work with or challenge people all over the world! :)

• Did some more Division with Integers, using number lines.
• What is/are the Sign Rule(s)?
• We even did a few textbook questions! Pages 297-299 #8, 9, 20, 21 and 310-311 #9, 10, 18, 22
• Friday Fun Math - How many Cookies?

Last Week in Science We:

• Finished looking at Mechanical Advantage, Speed Ratio, Efficiency and Work.

• Reviewed the work we did on our Telus Spark Science Centre Field Trip.
• Completed fill in the blank notes, questions, and activities for section 2.3 Hydraulics
• Finished Vocabulary #3

Other Stuff:

• Watched Hidden Figures:  Math, Science & Humanities. In recognition of Black History Month.
• Wrote up and handed in:
• Identify the 4 points in the movie (conflict, rising action, climax, resolution)
• Describe how NASA and the other characters (people) address challenges.
• Identify 3 uses of figurative speech.
• Compare the society to what we have studied in Europe or with the Aztec.

• Worked with Integer Chips to add, subtract, and multiply positive and negative integers.
• Talked about using a number line.  When does this work with multiplication?

• Started Numeracy Ninjas!

• Finished Vocabulary #2 
• Reviewed our notes on Machines Make Work Easier and the Science of Work
• Did word problems with calculations for: Mechanical Advantage, Speed Ratio, & Efficiency
• Watched the movie Tomorrowland and completed an assignment about inventions, their intentions, and our responsibilities.
