    • Completed 3.3 Estimating Square Roots, & 3.4 Using the Pythagorean Relationship, & 3.5 Applying the Pythagorean relationship

Last Week in Science we:

  • Continued work on Cells & Systems
  • Is your VOCABULARY done?
    • What are the characteristics of living things?
    • What is a cell?  What are the differences between plant and animal cells?  Why do they have differences?  DID YOU DO A VENN DIAGRAM IN YOUR VISUAL JOURNAL?
    • What is evidence?  How is it different from rumor?
    • Structure and Function - remember this from Grade 7?
    • What are structures the 8 organ systems we looked at?
    • Microscopes, tissues, and cells!
    • difference between multi-cellular and unicellular (single cell)

What's Your Angle?

Last Week in Math we:

  • Started our work on Pythagoras.
  • Read the book "What's your angle?" as a class.
  • What is a square root?  A perfect square?
  • How do you estimate these things?  Why do we estimate?
  • Completed Get Ready, 3.1, and 3.2
  • Up next:  Using Pythagorean Theorem to Solve word problems.


Last Week in Science we:

  • Continued our work with Cells and how they group together to make tissues.
  • Completed our vocabulary.
  • Did you finish your microscope assignment?
  • Completed 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1 and 2.1 notes, questions, activities.


Other Stuff

  • Please be safe.  Make safe choices.
  • Is your visual journal up to date?  Have you added extra stuff to it to show your learning an understanding?

Microscopes, Systems, and Friday Fun Math - Oh My!

Last week in Math we:

  • Reviewed Linear Relations.  Plan A, B, C.
  • Could you answer a word problem?  Describe a pattern?  Recognize a line?  Make a table of values?  Plot them on a Cartesian plane?  Solve an if X equals question?  
  • Did Friday Fun Math!!

Last week in Science we:

  • Watched Osmosis Jones.  What did you identify as REAL and FAKE?  Why is this related to our current unit?
  • Completed 1.1 notes and questions about Characteristics of Life, plant vs animal cells.
  • Looked at microscopes.  What are the different parts?  What do they do?
  • Used the microscopes to look at different things.  How did your drawings turn out?
  • How do we calculate magnification using the microscope?

Next Week:

  • Complete module on Human Body Systems
  • Pythagoras.
  • Squares.  Square Roots.  Perfect Squares.


Other Stuff:

  • How is your visual journal looking?  Please get it up to date!
  • Have you used Mathletics lately?

10 Weeks Left in Grade 8!

Last Week in Math We:

  • Worked on understanding Linear Relations.
  • Identified patterns on a graph.
  • Identified patterns in a table of values.
  • Wrote tables of values from points on a cartesian plane.
  • Wrote linear equations using Plan A, B, or C.
  • Checked our work.
  • What kinds of problems can we solve?
  • Finished work on Get Ready, 9.1 and 9.2.

HAPPY 2nd POLAR VORTEX WEEK

Last Week in Math We:

  • Reviewed integer sign rules
  • Mastered Integers and Order of operations - Banish the Brackets!
  • Completed some Applying Integer Operations (8.5) Practice
  • Wrote a little Check-In on Integers.
  • Worked on our Integer Foldable.  It is Due on Wednesday February 20, 2019.
  • Friday Fun Math had at least TWO ways you could solve the problem.  Either way Kenji started with 54 cookies.  You have to show your thinking as best you can!
