Percent & Mechanical Systems

This week in Math we:

  • Moved on to percent.
  • Be sure you have finished all of the work from your fractions unit, including your visual journal work,  "I can" Statements page and FOLDABLE!
  • What did we represent with Geoboards and Elastics?
  • What did we do with the beaded Number lines we made?
  • Did you finish and hand in your "get ready"

This week in Science we:
  • Did our final assessment for Mix and Flow of Matter.  Did you hand yours in?
  • Looked at some random stuff of the table.  Identified simple machines.  Put this in our Visual journals.
  • Did our word wall word.  Did you hand yours in?
  • Started working on some fill in the blank notes, questions and activities about Simple Machines.  If you need an extra copy you can click here.

Other Stuff
  • Parent Teacher Student interviews are being booked for Thursday December 7th through MyCBE on PowerSchool.  Click here to view available times.  Please contact the main office if you have questions or need assistance.
  • Field trip forms went home this week.  There is not cost for the trip (thank you parent council), but you MUST bring your completed and signed form back in order to participate.  Extra forms can be printed using the link below

Keep, Change, Flip. Do it in Order. Density, Temperature, Buoyancy, Pressure and BREAD!

Last Week In Math We:

  • Did division of Fractions - proper, mixed, whole numbers improper....the works (6.5 & 6.6)
  • Keep, change, flip
  • Did you do your diamond?  Numeric, Story, Visual, another Visual
  • Wrote a quiz on Fractions.  It was so much fun.

Last Week In Science We:

  • Did density.
  • How does temperature affect density?
  • Particle Model can help you explain all.
  • TSQ4R - submarines, hydraulics, pneumatics
  • Finished Mix and Flow notes, questions.
  • Activities and Review to come!

Other:

  • Our bread experiment is complete.  The experiment should be documented in your visual journal using the Scientific Method.
  • New Class will start Monday or Tuesday, we will let you know as soon as we know.  Sad to lose some of you.  Excited for your new adventure.

Fractions Fractions Fractions, Density, Buoyancy, Temperature and Boats

Last week in Math we:

  • reviewed how to change mixed numbers into improper fractions
  • reviewed how to change improper fractions into mixed numbers
  • Did a Visual Journal Entry:  SHOW ME THE THINKING
  • Multiplied Improper Fractions and Mixed Numbers (6.4) and handed it in.
  • Quiz moved from Monday to TUESDAY.
  • Tip:  look at the "Key Ideas" (blue boxes in the textbook) for a summary and more examples of how the fractions work.
  • Mathletics, even 5 minutes a day of it will build your skills and confidence!

Last week in Science we:

  • Restarted our Bread Experiment.  What did we change? Why did we change it? Are you making your DAILY observations?
  • Looked at Density of Fluids.  Completed notes and activities for Section 3.2.  Remember to include your Density Calculations Practice when you hand in this module.
  • Looked at how Temperature affects Density.
  • Started to examine the concept of Buoyancy.
  • Watched Science Max on Buoyancy.  The link is here if you want to re-watch it.  Do you think Bob Bahan pool would let us try this?

Remembrance Day Ceremony:

  • So proud you!  You all were respectful and wonderful!

Saturation,Viscosity, Failed Experiments, proper fractions, & Mathletics

Last Week in Math We:

  • divided a fraction by a whole number (keep, change, flip)
  • How could you write a whole number as a fraction?
  • 6.2 complete and handed in
  • Multiplied proper fractions (6.3) handed in
  • Up next:  Multiplying improper fractions and mixed numbers, dividing fractions and mixed numbers (we have explored this a little already)

Last Week in Science We:

  • Studied VISCOSITY
  • What happened in our Ramp experiment?
  • Complete notes, activities, and questions for 3.1 Viscosity and the Effects of Temperature.  The link for this assignment is here in case you have misplaced yours:
  • What is viscosity?  What has a high viscosity?  What has a low viscosity?  If we heat a substance does the viscosity go up or down?  Explain using the particle theory.

Other Stuff:

  • Revisited our Failed bread experiment.
  • What will we change when we try this again?
  • Visual Journal Prompts can be found in a link on the side of this blog.  PLEASE keep your journal up to date.  You get class time.
